Gardening and weekend

This is the right side of my garden. Its actually from about 2 weeks ago and everything has gotten a lot bigger. The problem is we have had so much rain. You can't see the potatoes on the left and they are doing wonderfully but the tomatoes are starting to get yellow leaves. Tom and I spent an hour today weeding and running the rototiller. The middle isn't even planted yet, we had planned on more corn and more potatoes. Hopefully it will stop raining in the next week and we can finish. Our town has a Farmer's Market that started right after Memorial Day and I did get there on Saturday. I bought potatoes, cukes, red potatoes and some wonderful whole grain brain. The place where I got the bread also has the most wonderful scones. When I got there at 10:30 they had one left. The man at the stand said his wife had baked 75. They have the best scones I have every had.
We go to a very small church about 2 miles from our house. On a good day we have around 40 people. We have been ushers for the month of June, handing out bulletins, making sure people have what they need, helping with the collection, locking up etc. About 75% of the congregation is over 80 and have belonged to the church since it was started, back in the 1940s. They are a lot of fun though and we really enjoy being members there. Tom and I have been sprucing up the front of the church by planting flowers and bushes for the past couple of weeks. This week we hope to get some mulch spread and it should be done for awhile. We moved alot of the shrubs around but they seem to be doing really well with all the rain and cooler weather we have been having.
We did get to the horse show yesterday. No baseball though. My grandson was almost at the very end of the show with his classes and they were really hurrying because there were severe thunderstorm warnings being issued. My daughter, Sara also rode in a class. They got to ride, got back to the trailer, got packed up and then the rain started. Don't know if we will get baseball in this week, we are supposed to get more rain.
Well I am off to knit. I have to get back on my sock before I forget where I was at. I know I mentioned I might get involved with all the finish it in the month of July things that are going on, but I didn't finish one thing so far. I am going to work on that.
Until next time...

Busy, Busy, Busy

Here is a picture of my chickens and dog, Annie. I adopted her when she was 7 through a vets office. We have had her about 3 years. She is a border collie all the way. She is always wanting to herd something. Now with the chickens she is very busy, I am thinking almost to busy. She never pays any attention to me anymore. She spends her day running between the horses and chickens, making sure everybody is where they should be. The chickens have actually flew over the fence a few times and she really is good at getting them back in. I got the chickens from a man who hatched them out and they were probably about 8 weeks old. I am thinking they are at least 12 weeks now and hoping that soon we will be getting eggs. We have really close neighbors, as all our properties are long and narrow. The rooster has really been doing a good job crowing every morning, faithfully at 5:30. He is almost as good as an alarm clock. Both Tom and I love hearing him in the morning. Hopefully our neighbors will feel the same. We try to be good neighbors. There are 4 families in a row and we are always helping each other with something. We did tell them if the crowing bothers them let us know and we will get rid of him. I hope that doesn't happen.
I should have titled this grandkids weekend. Yesterday Tom and I were going to go to our grandson Tom's baseball game. We had a terrible thunderstorm and got about 2 inches of rain so the game was canceled. I heard there is another one Saturday, so maybe we can make that.
Today I went to the Firefighters Festival in the town where Kris lives (Tom had to work). Jessica and Tyler were in the parade on a float of their babysitters throwing candy to everyone. They looked like they were having a great time. Its really hard to watch Jessica walk though after her broken leg. It has really slowed her down. I think she was faster with a cast and crutches.
Tomorrow is a horse show at the local fair grounds, so we are going to go see Joe ride. Once upon a time, when Kris and Sara were growing up we went to horse shows every weekend so we still have some friends that show and it will be good to see them. I love watching Joe ride. He is so serious and intent on doing things right. He also has a really nice horse.
So, if it doesn't rain Tom and I will get to see all 4 grandkids doing something that is important to them.
Sunday will be nap day!!

More garden pictures

What do you do with an old grain drill when your get a new one?? You park is on an old concrete slab (used to be a shed there) and plant flowers around it. Another great spot in my yard.
Been a busy, busy week so far. I am looking forward to tomorrow, I only half to work until noon. After I do a few errands its going to be knitting and working in the yard. We have had so much rain that the grass needs to be cut again. Due to the $3.99 a gallon gas I am trying to conserve and not mow as often as we did in years past, so for this year it will be a little long.
My sock project has stalled. I really need to concentrate and lately have only had a few minutes here and there to sit down and knit. Right now I am working on a cowl. So far so good. After reading Kris' blog I think I need to follow her and finish up some projects before moving on to more. Both Kris and Sara want a shrug that was seen on Philgry's blog, plus I want one for myself. So for tonight I am going to get out something that is almost done and try to finish it.
Until next time.....

Finally!! Pictures!!

This is my first picture post, so we will seee how this works. This is the flower garden that is on the west side of the house. Its all perenials and when its blooming its beautiful.

Been a busy week here. Our neighbors were having a graduation party for their son, so all the neighbors were pitching in and helping with yard work, etc. Great party, it was a pig roast. Just as the pig was ready we get tornador warnings and a torrential downpour. When the tent and table umbrellas started flying we headed for the house. We wouldn't let a little rain spoil the day.

Enjoy the pictures. I will keep uploading them and playing around, hopefully I will get better at this whole thing. Until next time...

Wednesday, I had the afternoon off

Wednesday I only work a half day, so it was off to the LYS for me. I got some help on my sock and think I can made some progress now. Did I mention I love Starbucks?? I just had to stop and get a latte. That is one thing I can't resist. I also made a great spaghetti sauce for dinner. If you haven't done so yet check out pioneerwomancooks blog. She is a great cook and has all sorts of things for any type of appetite. I used her chicken linguine recipe. It was excellent.

The grandkids got here late from the circus, but they had a great time. They got to ride a camel and elephant. I am sure you will see pictures on Kris blog. So no pictures today, maybe later in the week.

Until next time

About Me!

First thanks for all the comments that were left. I thought I would be the only one reading, and my daughters of course. I appreciate your thoughtfulness. I read a lot of the blogs on Kris and Sara's list so some of you I feel I already know.

I'm a wife, mother and grandmother. I have been married to the same man for 38 years this September - and yes after that long you start to think alike. We have 3 children - Kris - who by the way has a BD on Friday, Sara and Matt and 5 grandchildren. I am a medical transcriptionst and work at home. Not as good as you think it would be though, for the last few years we have had to punch a time clock. We live out in what used to be country, but is slowly being taken over by housing. Most of the farm land around us has been sold off and the rest I am sure will be soon. We have 5 acres and our land actually is against land that is not suitable for building on - so for now we are safe and have no one in back of us - just woods. We have horses, chickens and a border collie - Annie. We actually gave up our rented farm land several years ago but still rent 7 acres behind us and do hay - which will be starting soon. I just got chickens about a month ago and tomorrow some more at supposed to be coming. I have a rooster and really love hearing him crow in the morning. The rooster and chickens are about 12 weeks - so actually I thought the dog had taken after something when he first started crowing. He sounded sick, but he is getting better at it. I like to knit, garden and walk. I love having the grandkids over. I don't quilt, but I do have lols of quilts. I am pretty good at talking Kris or Sara into making me some.

Tomorrow I am going to the our local yarn shop, I am stuck on my sock. I am just learning how to knit socks and this is where I had problems in the class I took. Also I heard Kris and the grandkids are coming over, there is a circus at our local fair grounds tomorrow. Hopefully she will bring her camera and I will have pictures to share.

Have a good evening. Jackie

June 15, 2008

This is my first blog, my first post. Looking forward to sharing knitting, country life, family and my daily life.

Today was a beautiful day here in Ohio, sunny and the right temperature. Tom and I are ushers at church for the month so we spent most of our morning opening up, making sure everyone had what they needed and then locking up after the service. We had a great children's service put on by the teenagers in our congregation. After church I did some errands, Tom cut grass and we did some general cleaning up around the yard. Our neighbors are having a graduation party next week Saturday, so we want our yard in shape also. The kids either stopped by or called Tom to wish him a Happy Father's Day, but at church he related his best part of the day was Jessica calling him to say Happy Father's Day and that they were going to church. Made his day.

I hope to post a couple of times a week and get a camera soon. Until next time Jackie
